Where the thigh meets the pelvis
A socket within the hip bone
The adult hip bone combines the ilium, ischium and pubis. All three contribute to the acetabulum, the socket on its outer side.
OpenStax · Pelvic girdle and pelvis ↗Bone shape is only part of the joint
The femoral head fits into the acetabulum to form a ball-and-socket joint. In the body, cartilage, a labrum and a strong capsule contribute to the joint; a bone-only view cannot demonstrate their behavior.

- Locate the socket
Use the oblique view, then rotate the hip bone to inspect the hollow facing the femoral head. Both bones stay visible for orientation.
Open Right hip bone → - Follow the femur
Highlight the femur without hiding the hip bone. Compare its rounded head with the socket; the shaft continues outside this close-up.
Open Right femur → - Inspect the hip bone alone
Isolate the hip bone and rotate it. Use Show context afterward to restore the regional view.

What this model does not show
This study contains only one hip bone and its femur. The sacrum, opposite hip bone, labrum, cartilage, capsule, ligaments and surrounding muscles are not loaded. The socket is a feature of the hip bone, not a separately selectable structure.
Static educational geometry, not a movement simulation or a diagnostic image. BodyParts3D / DBCLS source attribution is provided with the viewer.
Anatomical facts checked against the linked references on . Specialist review pending. Instructions describe this Anatomio viewer, not the source textbook.
