Right costal cartilage 4

Follow this original cartilage surface through the anterior chest. Its number and side come from the source index; the model is not an additional rib bone.

Between rib and sternum

Costal cartilage is hyaline cartilage, not bone. Cartilages of ribs 1–7 provide direct connections to the sternum; ribs 8–10 join indirectly through the costal margin, while ribs 11–12 have no sternal connection.

This object is indexed as cartilage 4 on the right. Compare it with the correspondingly numbered rib rather than counting visible fragments as separate ribs.

Read the original surface

The viewer preserves the complete source object. Any branching or extended lower contour remains part of this indexed mesh; it has not been cut into newly named cartilage segments.

Fourteen costal-cartilage objects are loaded, seven per side. Separate entries for cartilage 8–12 were not found in the checked catalogue; their coverage within neighboring meshes remains unconfirmed.

Compare in context

Use Show context to restore the trunk assembly, then turn Muscles off to inspect the skeletal framework. Bones and Cartilage have separate controls; leave both on to compare the connections.

Use Isolate to inspect this surface alone. The scene shows a static source position, without joint motion, tissue mechanics or attachment annotations.

About this model

BodyParts3D identifies this surface as right costal cartilage 4: FMA7976 / FJ3339. Its original coordinates and topology are preserved. Anatomical sides refer to the body, not the screen.

The trunk assembly includes thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, sacrum, ribs, sternum parts, hip bones, selected muscles and 14 indexed costal cartilages. Discs, cervical vertebrae, coccyx, organs and other trunk muscles are not loaded.
