Two components, separate selections
Compare the broad iliacus surface with the longer psoas major on the same side. Enable the optional psoas major context in the hip viewer to compare both surfaces.
Iliacus and psoas major form the iliopsoas functional pair. The viewer keeps the two source surfaces separate; it does not add a third combined muscle mesh.

Attachment overview
Iliacus arises mainly in the iliac fossa and joins the iliopsoas attachment at the femoral lesser trochanter.
The hip bone and femur provide partial attachment context. Sacral attachments and individual tendon fibers cannot be inspected in this assembly.

Main actions
It flexes the hip; with the thigh fixed, it can move the pelvis toward the thigh.
These are anatomical actions, not an animation performed by the model. Rotation controls move the camera; the study does not calculate contraction or force.

Innervation
Femoral nerve.
Nerve paths and the lumbar plexus are not present in this model. The guide does not infer nerve positions from a gap between meshes.

Explore right iliacus in 3D
- Inspect one surface. Select iliacus from the structure list, then use Isolate and Focus selection. Rotate to Oblique to inspect its broad surface.
- Compare the pair. Use the two reading cards below the same-side hip viewer. Each opens its own structure page; selecting the opposite side is an explicit choice. Right iliopsoas guides →
- Restore the available context. Psoas major pages restore both psoas muscles and the available trunk bones; iliacus pages restore the same-side leg. In the hip study, enable “Show psoas major · trunk context” to compare the pair with the hip bone and femur. The hip study does not include the spine. Right hip in 3D →
BodyParts3D provides this right-sided surface model, not every anatomical variant. Colors distinguish structures; they are not tissue textures.
The hip bone and femur provide partial attachment context. Sacral attachments and individual tendon fibers cannot be inspected in this assembly.
Original side-identified BodyParts3D geometry is preserved. Iliacus and psoas major are separate source meshes; a shared tendon, attachment footprints and internal fibers are not independently segmented.
The trunk study now includes lumbar vertebrae and sacrum, but the leg study does not. Psoas minor, short external rotators, nerves and vessels remain absent. This is not a complete posterior abdominal wall or pelvic model. Source checks do not replace specialist anatomical review.
A section tool is not available for this structure. The surface model does not reveal internal tissue architecture or represent a medical scan.

This guide uses independently written explanations with links to the evidence behind them. Source checking and specialist anatomical review are separate steps; the latter is still pending.
