Left costal cartilage 8

Follow this original cartilage surface through the anterior chest. Its number and side come from the source index; the model is not an additional rib bone.

Atlas noteOriginal-source surface geometry; colors are illustrative. This partial study has not yet received specialist anatomical review.

Between rib and sternum

Costal cartilage is hyaline cartilage, not bone. Cartilages of ribs 1–7 provide direct connections to the sternum; ribs 8–10 join indirectly through the costal margin, while ribs 11–12 have no sternal connection.

This object is indexed as cartilage 8 on the left. Compare it with the correspondingly numbered rib rather than counting visible fragments as separate ribs.

Read the original surface

The viewer preserves the complete source object. Any branching or extended lower contour remains part of this indexed mesh; it has not been cut into newly named cartilage segments.

Twenty source cartilage objects are loaded, numbered 1–10 on each side. Ribs, cartilages, sternum and thoracic vertebrae share one source coordinate system and one registration. Short cartilage caps of floating ribs 11–12 are not separately established in this audit.

Compare in context

Use Show context to restore the trunk assembly, then turn Muscles off to inspect the skeletal framework. Bones and Cartilage have separate controls; leave both on to compare the connections.

Use Isolate to inspect this surface alone. The scene shows a static source position, without joint motion, tissue mechanics or attachment annotations.

Source identification

About this model

Atlas identification for this Z-Anatomy geometry variant: left costal cartilage 8: ZA958897215. The complete source triangle surface is retained with one shared thoracic registration; original FBX identity and changes are recorded in Thorax provenance below the viewer. Anatomical sides refer to the body, not the screen.

The trunk assembly includes thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, sacrum, ribs, sternum parts, hip bones, selected muscles and 20 indexed costal cartilages. Discs, cervical vertebrae, coccyx, organs and other trunk muscles are not loaded.
